ANTONIO MORMONE INTERNATIONAL PRIZE
An innovative Prize honoring tradition and supporting the future
The Foundation La Società dei Concerti organizes the Antonio Mormone International Prize with the aim of discovering and promoting young artists in the spirit and with the ideals of its founder. Antonio Mormone became the point of reference, since the start of their careers, of many undisputed great artists of today. Among the music stars who recognize his crucial role, is the pianist Evgenji Kissin, who accepted the appointment as Honorary Chairman of the Prize.
The Prize will be awarded every four years and will alternately be assigned to young pianists and violinists between the age of 18 and 28.
The first edition will be entirely dedicated to the piano, the selections in three rounds, always as public concerts.
The innovative selection methods of the candidates, the jury, the final suite of concrete opportuni-ties provided to the winner and the prestigious setting make the Antonio Mormone International Prize a unique event. The final, due to the pandemic COVID-19, has been postponed to July 2021, from 7th to 11th, and the final evening and ceremony award will be at Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
The PIAM is established by the Foundation La Società dei Concerti under the patronage of Ministero della Cultura, Regione Lombardia and Comune di Milano, in collaboration with Teatro alla Scala and the Conservatory of Music “G. Verdi” of Milan. Artistic directors are Enrica Ciccarelli Mormone and Matthieu Mantanus. Nazzareno Carusi has been named artistic advisor. The honor committee is led by Dr. Gianni Letta and composed by: Dario Franceschini, Italian Minister of Culture; Attilio Fontana, President of the Lombardy Region; Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of Milan; Stefano Bruno Galli, Councilor for Autonomy and Culture of the Lombardy Region; Carlo Fontana, President of AGIS; Francesco Micheli. On July 1, 2021, the President of the Italian Republic awarded the Medal of the President of the Republic to the 1st edition of the Antonio Mormone International Award, as his representation award. On June 14th, the President of the Italian Senate Mrs. Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati conferred the Medal of Representation of the Senate of the Italian Republic for the first edition of the award.
